Private Music Theory Lessons Melbourne
What is Music Theory?
The first three grades of Music
Theory cover the rudiments
of music and are essential for a basic understanding of
music notation. Included are topics such as scales, time
signatures, accidentals, chords etc. The first three grades
of theory are incorporated in all beginners' lessons.
After grade three, Music Theory becomes
much more involved with the introduction of the study of
Harmony. Harmony is the study of how chords and melody work
together. It is the basis of composition. Students reaching
this level will need to take an extra lesson devoted purely
to the study of theory.
At grade six level, the study of Counterpoint is
introduced. Counterpoint is not a topic that can be understood
without a thorough grasp of Harmony.
We cater for all levels
of Music Theory, from beginners to advanced and
we have written our own comprehensive course including text
books and sample examination papers.
Why is Music Theory important?
It’s one thing to play a piece of
music, it’s another thing to understand what you are
playing.
We believe that the study of music theory
is vital not only in enabling students to be able to read
music, but also in developing their understanding of music.
On request we can prepare and enter students
for AMEB, ANZCA, ABRSM and Trinity
College exams.
Students wishing to sit for practical exams
should note that from grade six onwards there are theory
prerequisites for each of the different grades of practical
examinations. |
