Our History

Melbourne School of Music was established in Parkville in 1983 by Don Kiritsopoulos and Jenny Ford. In 1985 we opened another studio in Mitcham and in 2002 began teaching from a third studio in Ringwood.

Don has an honours degree in music performance in Classical Guitar from Melbourne University and a Diploma of Music from the Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music.

Don is a past theory examiner with the Australian Music Examinations Board and has lectured in music theory, harmony and counterpoint and music history at a tertiary level at Australian Catholic University and the Melba Conservatorium of Music. He taught guitar for many years at various grammar schools including Methodist Ladies’ College, Ivanhoe Grammar and Korowa Grammar.

Don has performed extensively for over twenty-five years, playing guitar in Rock bands, Latin-American combos and Greek duos and trios.

Jenny also has an honours degree in music performance from Melbourne University. She taught Piano for many years at a tertiary level at the Melba Conservatorium (a division of Victoria University) as well as at various grammar schools including Methodist Ladies’ College and Melbourne Grammar.
